Partial replacement is inevitable because our clients are already using them.
So, IP attorneys need to work with these tools as much as possible to understand what the client is needs, and potential pitfalls.

AI tools generate something that looks pretty good, but you still need to go through and check everything. The ability to summarise and extract key points is very good, especially for patent attorneys who have been trained to write long, self-contained sentences 😉.
But the AI tools will sometimes miss something. ChatGPT (OpenAI) is not (yet) great with technical terms, but there are tools trained on patent databases which handle that much better.
These tools will replace some of our tasks. Those with no money will simply generate such outputs and use them. There are already AI-generated patent filings appearing in the US, where the support requirement is less strict. All the large companies are currently implementing AI-patent-drafting tools for their “quick and dirty” applications.
The work that will remain is fixing this stuff, trying to get it granted, and advising clients. Clients need specialists that they can trust, and trust is a human-to-human relationship💪.
